Episode 10 of Forever After is the tenth episode in the series.

Summary

Robin and Tank wander in a desert looking for Rapunzel when the Wicked Witch appears, revealing a big secret about himself and Tank.

Plot

Robin gets up and makes her way over to the window, desperate to find the cure for the blinding curse because she believes that she was too shallow to pick her future husband by just the sound of his voice. Robin searches for the hair she used to climb, and Tank comments that the baby-napping Gothel must have taken it with her when she left. Robin certainly doesn't want to defend any witches, but points out that baby Rapunzel had been given to Gothel by their parents

Tank exits the window, noting that he could bring the hair back up the window, but he was sure that Robin didn't need his help, and mockingly suggested that Robin woo her way down the tower. Robin scolds him for taunting her while she's blind, and Tank points out she did punch the Fates, which she denies briefly before acknowledging that she is trash and doesn't deserve help. She then asks if he'll help anyway. Tank asks her to name who she needed help from, and Robin asks Tank by his name with a smile, which he happily agrees to.

Tank zips down and grabs the hair, bringing the rope of impossibly strong keratin backup to Robin, who is confused as to how Tank lifted something that is 100 times his body weight. Tank wraps the hair to the large pair of gardening shears embedded in the wall as Robin ties the hair around her waist, and Tank pushes Robin out the window. Once at the bottom of the tower, Tank unties Robin while commenting that none of the other Prince Charmings got a fairy to help them, Robin tells Tank to stop helping her before she gets sick.

Once Robin is back on her feet, Tank checks the book to see what they're supposed to do next, and finds out that the blinded prince is to wander in search of their lost love. Tank comments that he was sure that the blinding curse had come from another story, and guides Robin by a smaller length of hair as she wanders through the forest, almost hitting several trees in the process. Robin stops suddenly upon feeling the turf beneath her feet had changed into soft sand, and Tank announces they've arrived at a desert. Robin grumbles about the classic German desert fairy tale as she keeps moving, but Tank is concerned if she's going the right way, and Robin reminds him she's meant to be wandering.

Much later, Robin and Tank are still wandering with Tank using one of Robin's gloves to provide him a little shade, and Robin trips over the one rock in the desert that can be tripped over. Tank encourages her to keep going, and Robin grumbles about the story as the Wicked Witch appears, asking if she was having trouble. He then adds that it's almost not worth messing with such a pair of scraggly protagonists. Robin tries to draw her sword towards him, but ends up facing the wrong direction. The Witch laughs as Tank corrects Robin's positioning, pleased that the blinding curse had hit its mark.

The Witch begins to snack on an apple as he mockingly asks if Robin forgot her sunscreen, and Tank asks if he there to gloat, which the Witch confirms, but adds that he wanted to see how the blinding curse had gone since it had been his idea, much to the horror of Tank and Robin. The Wicked Witch had come up with it since he knew that not all Prince Charmings would blind themselves leaving the tower, so he came up with the blinding curse with Gothel as a guarantee.

Robin curses at the Witch, calling him a meddling son of a monkey, to which he replies that there is no need to insult his monkeys. Robin then asks if there was anything else. The Witch replies that he wants to know if she is ready to give up, and Robin replies that the villain always asks the hero to give up right before she wins while swinging her sword again, missing the Witch completely.

The Witch finishes his apple before standing over Robin, commenting on his curiosity about how many more stories she'll do before she cracks, and that the Fates didn't prepare her for being a Prince Charming, nor is she hero material. Tank snaps at the Witch to shut up as he yanks on his horns, pulling him away from Robin and into the sand as he says that no one is ready for life's challenges, but being a hero is about facing the hard things that come one’s way and doing one's best regardless.

The Witch recovers, telling Tank he's adorable, and that only an imbecile would wait for hardship to prove themselves worthy. He adds that he doesn't think that there is even a word for someone so foolish to actually seek hardship out. Tank yells back that if the Witch had what it takes to be a prince, he wouldn't be a villain, and the Witch tells him that the Prince Charming thing is bull, and that both of them gave it up because they knew, deep down, it was hopeless. But the difference between the Witch and Tank, was that the Witch wasn't lying to Robin, the current Prince Charming stuck with the job.

Trivia

• In the original German version penned by the Brothers Grimm, Rapunzel's birth mother had cravings for an edible salad green called rapunzel while pregnant, and refused to eat anything else. Rapunzel's father broke into the garden belonging to the Witch next door to get some Rapunzel for her, but was caught by the Witch. He begs for mercy, and she agrees to be lenient, allowing him to take all the Rapunzel he wants on condition that the baby be given to her when it's born, and he agrees.
